About the event
Join acclaimed pianist Viv McLean for this special lunchtime programme of lyrical works for piano at St Giles Cripplegate.
The concert features the music of three musical titans, evoking homelands which are inextricably linked with their output. Beethoven wrote his great Les Adieux Sonata for his beloved Vienna when Napoleon's attack forced the composer's patron, Archduke Rudolph, to leave. Grieg's Lyric Pieces are infused with the flavours and rhythms of Norway's traditional music. Among the numbers performed today will be the irrepressible Wedding Day at Troldhaugen, recalling joy at the composer's own home. As for Chopin, nothing is more characteristic of his genius than the folk dances of Poland - the Mazurka and the Polonaise.
