FAURÉ Requiem
"Word of the Highest, our only hope,
Eternal day of earth and the heavens..."
The opening words of Gabriel Fauré's 'Cantique de Jean Racine' evoke this year's theme, and his timeless, ethereal setting of the Requiem mass is the first of the three which form the pillars of the festival ("may light perpetual shine upon them"). Both of these much-loved works are performed in the edition by Sir John Rutter, alongside his own 'Suite Antique' and a pair of colourful dances by the master of impressionism, Debussy.
